Nevada Gaming Commission authorizes ZenSports Inc.
The Nevada Gaming Commission has just given its blessing to a novel sports betting operator for the purpose of granting a license in the state. A commission decision of 2 to 1 gave the go-ahead to ZenSports Inc., a firm with headquarters in California, as well as the company's management.
The startup intends to provide a novel approach to sports betting in which players will place their wagers not against the establishment that is running the game but rather against another player with whom they are competing in the game. Through a leasing arrangement, ZenSports intends to provide its services at both Big Wheel Casino and The Book at Baldini's, both of which are located in Sparks.
Detailed Exposition Of The Plan
At the beginning of this month, the Nevada Gaming Control Board sat and listened as ZenSports outlined its strategy for introducing sports betting within the state. The presentation was finished after a period of three hours. The hearing that the company's officials had to go to in order to try to have their licenses authorized was scheduled for this week, and it would take another two hours of their time.
Since ZenSports was only granted a license valid for the next two years, the board will have to review their application in 2023. Commissioner Rosa Solis-Rainey cast the lone dissenting vote about the firm. She is of the opinion that the business's management team does not have sufficient expertise, nor does she believe that the company is in a solid financial situation.
The operator disagrees with this assessment and asserts that they will be in a healthy financial situation as a result of the fact that they will not be purchasing the Big Wheel venue but rather leasing it. The other two commissioners were in support of granting the firm a license that is valid for two years because it provides the business with the opportunity to demonstrate that it has what it takes to successfully offer sports betting.
ZenSports was successful in obtaining permission, however the approval comes with 16 stipulations. One of these is a prohibition on the usage of bitcoin within the firm. There is a long-term goal for ZenSports to be able to provide its consumers with access to bitcoin.
More Specific Information
Mark Thomas, president of ZenSports and majority shareholder, said to the board that the firm was considering expanding into Nevada after observing the growth in the sports betting industry in the previous year. Thomas is responsible for a variety of responsibilities inside the corporation, including acting as chief executive and handling the company's books.
One of the concerns that Commissioner Solis-Rainey had was that, because Thomas was contributing so much to the success of ZenSports, she feared that the firm would not be able to continue operating normally in the event that he wanted to quit his job.
When a player makes a monetary payment through ZenSports, they will get Zen Tokens in return. These tokens may then be used to compete in betting competitions against other users of the platform. In accordance with the terms of the licensing agreement, ZenSports is required to set aside a sum of money equal to $25,000 in an emergency fund to cover the costs of any inquiries into the firm that may be performed by the Board.
